1. an oily substance with a strong odor, secreted by beavers; castoreum. It is used in making perfume and in medicines.
2. a) a hat made of beaver fur. b) any hat resembling this.
3. a heavy woolen cloth especially used for overcoats.
4. a soft-finished glove leather, usually gray in color.
5. = beaver. (Cf.beaver)

1. Greek and Roman Legend. one of the twin sons of Zeus and Leda. Castor was mortal; his brother, Pollux, was immortal. Castor and Pollux became the constellation Gemini after Castor's death.
2. the fainter of the two bright stars in the constellation Gemini.
